The Campaign has been working on guidance for voluntary sector organisations on how best to preserve and catalogue their historical material. Philip Gale, our co-ordinating editor, has now made a draft publication Keeping value: archival guidance for the voluntary sector available for comment.

The Campaign welcomes any comments on the content and tone of the publication which will be re-drafted over the winter. Feedback is warmly received at any point, but would be appreciated by December 2013 so that it can be given full consideration by the editorial committee.

Keeping value: Archival guidance for the voluntary sector v.1

The purpose of this draft guide is to help voluntary sector organisations that own or look after archive material to plan the preservation, care and development of their archive collection. The guide includes case studies from the voluntary sector and the aim is to help organisations with practical advice and to identify sources of further advice.

Any comments and suggested amendments to the text are welcome from any interested party and especially before by the end of December 2013 when the guidance will be further revised by the CSVA’s editorial panel.

A shorter piece of draft guidance for smaller organisations ‘Keeping it simple: Introductory archival guidance for voluntary small sector organisations, v1’ was published on CVSA website in April 2013 and both pieces of guidance will further revised over the winter.
